The 1919 plate celebrates Christopher Columbus discovering the new world – there are three visible ships perhaps symbolic of his ships, the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. The flag with its red and gold colors and castle and lion symbols represent the Coat of Arms of his patron, Queen Isabella of Castile, Spain, 1492-1504.
