The Limited Edition 2023 Guenther House Fiesta Medal! This year’s Fiesta Medal features the beautiful alabaster polar bear statue that can be seen on display at The Guenther House! This piece of art was a wedding present given to C.H. Guenther’s youngest son Erhard sometime in 1896 by a milling company in Kansas – Polar Bear Milling Company. The alabaster bear sits upon a slab of marble resembling ice.
Brief History of Fiesta Medals: Originating in the 1920s, the original fiesta medal was worn by “King Antonio” during the San Antonio Fiesta celebrations. passed down to each King Antonio, the tradition changed in 1971 when King Antonio Charles Orsinger started handing out “Kings Coins” which popularized the coins that evolved into mass-produced medals of all shapes and sizes that you see today.
